Registration of Vehicles by Citizens of the United States of America

Passport with a valid visa (valid for a minimum period of 3 months) or a valid Residence Permit.
Current registration with the local Citizens’ Registration Office (Einwohnermeldeamt).
Evidence of an existing bank account (Bank Card, EC-Card, Bank statement).
Proof of ownership (Purchase Agreement or original invoice).
German Customs Clearance Certificate (Zollunbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung).
Proof of vehicle operating license (EU Compliance Certificate [EG-Übereinstimmungsbescheinigung], or an expert appraisal in accordance with Section 21 Road Traffic Registration Ordinance [Strassenverkehrszulassungsordung], or an expert opinion in accordance with Section 13 EG-FGV).
Certificate of US Forces registration cancellation which reflects that the old license plate has been voided, that the vehicle is no longer in the US Forces system, and there exists no creditor’s lien (clear title).
Presentation of the German vehicle registration certificate (Fahrzeugbrief, ZBII) or possibly the vehicle registration document (Fahrzeugschein, ZB1) in the event the vehicle had previously been registered in Germany (which will be revealed in answer to an inquiry to the Federal Motor Transport Authority which we will undertake on your behalf).
Electronic Insurance Confirmation (Evb-Number).
In case somebody else is representing you: Power of attorney whereby you have authorized that person (available on our homepage as a download document).

Fees:

Registration of the vehicle (does not include the costs of the plate/plates) 27,00 €
Affix two rubber stamps 0,60 € +
Issuance of a license plate number of your choice 10,20 € +
Reserving a license plate number 2,60 € +
In the event of vehicles not included in a recognized vehicle type category an additional 15,30 € +
Vehicle Registration Certificate Part II (including the inquiry to the Federal Motor Transport Authority) 3,60 € +
